The Colour Out of Space

When a pulsing, colour-shot meteorite buries itself by his well, farmer Nahum Gardner watches its unearthly hue seep first into swollen, tasteless fruit and prismatic flowers, then into livestock and finally into his own family—his wife gibbering in the attic, his sons vanishing one by one into a tainted well—until neighbor Ammi Pierce and a party of officials witness the accumulated horror tear itself skyward in a torrent of nameless colour, leaving behind the ever-widening grey, brittle desolation known as the blasted heath, with some last residue still said to linger and creep, inch by inch, in the abandoned well.
